Work History:
2014 – present—Eileen Allen Editorial Services
Sole proprietor of indexing and editing service, specializing in academic books, papers, and dissertations. Recent work has included books on music, women’s and gender studies, cultural studies, history, civil rights, film, education, political science, and the Middle East; and journal articles, book chapters, and dissertations in the disciplines of organizational science, civil and mechanical engineering, and library and information science.  Based on over twenty years of occasional indexing and editing experience, and on graduate classes in Indexing and Abstracting, and Thesaurus Construction. Current clients include individual authors, Indiana University Press, University of Arizona Press, University of Washington Press, University of Nebraska Press,  The Ohio State University Press, Syracuse University Press, Naval Institute Press, University of Utah Press, Princeton University Press, and Westchester Publishing Services.

2006 – 2017—Research Administrator, School of Information Studies, Syracuse University
Work with faculty to prepare grant proposals for funding.  Manage and assist with all aspects of preparation, including preparing budgets, writing portions of the text, editing narratives, inspecting proposal sections for compliance and completeness, and coordinating with collaborators and campus offices.

1999 – 2006—Senior Analyst, Center for Natural Language Processing, Syracuse University
1994 – 1996—Senior Analyst/ Analyst, TextWise, LLC

Served as leading research analyst. Carried out research on a variety of funded projects using computational linguistics approaches to build software applications for government and private industry and to further knowledge in the information sciences. Managed funded projects, coauthored publications with faculty, assisted in the writing of proposals, wrote pseudo-code, and managed budgets.

1992 – 1996—Reference Librarian, SUNY Institute of Technology
Served as reference librarian with specialized knowledge in government documents and the school’s archive.

1990—Manager, Film News Index project, Syracuse University
Managed a course-based, graduate indexing project for a 40-year run of Film News.
